Carbon Dating! is meant to be an entire series consisting of 10 minutes episodes. How many episodes can we make? Who knows! We have many ideas and concepts we can play with. We could make dozens or even hundreds of episodes! However, they aren't cheap to produce. Even though we own all the production gear and the editing suite minimizing expenses, each episode still costs an average of around $1200. As you can imagine, being a small self-funded independent studio, our budget dried up pretty quickly after making the first 4 episodes. That's why we need your help! The more money we can raise, the more episodes we can produce! Roughly half of the cost of each episode covers costume pieces, props, set dressings, gear, makeup, and Covid safety supplies (masks, sanitizer etc.) The other half pays the cast and crew for their time and hard work.

For our first season we would like to produce 12 episodes. That would mean our goal would be to raise between $12,000 - $24,000. This would cover all the episodes in the season including expenses still needing to be covered from the first episodes we already produced. Any extra funds raised beyond our goal will go towards producing our second season! (Hint hint).

Luckily the risks are minimal. We have a new studio space, the gear, and the talent. We created the series and own the rights to the show, so we're only limited to the number of episodes we can produce based on the funds we raise. We've already produced 4 episodes which will begin being released on Valentine's Day 2021 with more episodes on the way, so producing and releasing the episodes is not an issue. With the information and samples we've provided hopefully we've been able to prove our commitment to this project.
The only real issues we foresee having to contend with are those caused by Covid. However, Carbon Dating! was designed with Covid in mind and is produced with strict safety procedures. Rarely are the actors in the same scene together. The footage is overlapped to create the illusion of interaction as you can see from the samples below.

Furthermore, the crew has been reduced to a very small size with everyone required to wear masks, sanitize, social distance, and limit the gear they are allowed to touch. Scheduling is staggered and other precautions are in place as well. The only delays in production we foresee will be caused by shut downs resulting from Covid. From time to time we may experience those delays, but it will not stop production overall. We're hoping and intending for this to be a long term series spanning many episodes and seasons.
Why a fundraiser here instead of a Kickstarter, GoFundMe, or Patreon? Quite a few reasons actually! First, the money you donate to this series can immediately be put to good use rather than being held by a third party for an extended period of time. Second, the funds go directly to us. We don't have to give a cut to any of those sites, meaning we get the most bang for your buck! On average, those sites take a cut of 30 cents per transaction and a percentage ranging from 10%-18% in addition to paypal fees. Through our site, we only have the paypal fees per transaction which are minimal in comparison. Third, we aren't bound by any third party deadlines which could prevent us from getting the much needed funds when needed in addition to paying a penalty for not reaching our goal by their deadline. Again, not a good use of your money when we're trying to bring you new content. Next, as this is an ongoing series, we don't need to get ALL of the money at once or by a deadline. As more funds come in, we can produce more episodes! Finally, doing it through our site gives us more control over the fundraiser. We don't have to limit donations to specific dollar amounts, we can offer ranges that are more flexible AND we don't have to be restricted to doing one time donations OR ongoing monthly donations, we can offer both!
